Yoga and Mindfulness Shape Early Learning, Says Kangaroo Kids on International Yoga Day

Kangaroo Kids International Preschool, India's leading premium international preschool chain, used International Yoga Day 2026 to underscore the importance of attention and mindfulness in young learners. The initiative brought together more than 7,000 children from 142 preschool centres across the country to participate in yoga and mindfulness activities aimed at strengthening concentration, self-awareness, and emotional well-being.
Growing worries about excessive screen time, reduced attention spans, and emotional challenges among children have prompted the preschool to shine a spotlight on concentration development—a critical yet frequently underemphasized component of early learning. Through structured yoga and mindful movement activities held at its centres, children engaged in practices designed to foster emotional balance and sharper focus from their formative years.
The programming aligned with this year's International Yoga Day theme, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," reflecting the conviction that positive habits established in the first five years of life lay the groundwork for lifelong wellness. The sessions went beyond traditional asanas, incorporating mindful breathing techniques, emotional reflection, and direct engagement with yoga educators. Children participated in age-appropriate activities including guided breathing exercises, physical poses, and interactive games such as "Yoga with Dice" to develop body awareness and self-regulation skills. The experience concluded with children crafting handmade cards expressing appreciation, weaving gratitude and empathy into the learning process.
These practices integrate with Kangaroo Kids' iCan Learning System, which weaves mindfulness and hands-on learning throughout daily classroom routines.
KVS Seshasai, CEO of the Pre-K Division at Lighthouse Learning, emphasized the significance of cultivating focus early on. "The capacity to concentrate has emerged as a fundamental competency in an environment saturated with stimuli and competing demands," he noted. "Attention shapes not just academic performance but also how children forge connections, manage their emotions, and handle adversity. The preschool years offer a critical opportunity to strengthen these abilities. Through yoga and conscious breathing, children learn to pace themselves, develop self-awareness, and acquire the emotional tools necessary for sustained growth and wellness. We hold that nurturing attention and emotional strength deserves equal priority with traditional literacy and numeracy skills."
Khusbu Agarwal, Centre Partner at Kangaroo Kids International Preschool Kankurgachi, observed tangible shifts in children following these sessions. "What stands out most is how mindfulness and yoga help children calm themselves," she explained. "We notice increased emotional awareness, better listening skills, and greater confidence in participation after these activities. Though these moments may seem small, they meaningfully influence how children grow."
As dialogue around child wellness expands beyond physical fitness and test scores, Kangaroo Kids advocates for greater emphasis on core competencies that enable children to learn flexibly and flourish. The preschool chain continues advancing a comprehensive model of early education that cultivates cognitive health, establishes constructive patterns, and prepares children for future success.
