Telangana Government Moves to Request CBI Investigation into Kaleshwaram Project

Hyderabad: The Telangana administration has advanced its efforts to secure a central investigation into the Kaleshwaram irrigation project after identifying no legal obstacles to proceeding with such a probe.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed state officials to formally approach the Central Bureau of Investigation with a request for immediate examination of alleged irregularities. The CM has also directed ministers to arrange meetings with the CBI Director and present a formal memorandum outlining the government's request.
The push for central agency involvement follows a comprehensive review meeting convened by the Chief Minister alongside Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy. During the session, officials assessed the legal landscape and charted the path forward regarding the Kaleshwaram matter.
Senior Supreme Court advocate Abhishek Singhvi provided legal counsel to the state leadership, offering guidance on the procedural requirements for initiating a central investigation.
According to Singhvi's briefing, no litigation connected to the Kaleshwaram project is currently pending in any court, thereby removing any judicial impediments to a CBI inquiry. He further noted that the High Court had not expressed concerns about the establishment of the Justice PC Ghosh Commission or raised objections to its report findings.
The meeting brought together a broad array of state officials and advisors. Participating were Minister Sridhar Babu and Singhvi, who attended via video conference, alongside Rajya Sabha MP Vem Narendra Reddy, Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao, Principal Secretary Seshadri, Secretary Manik Raj, Irrigation ENC Sridhar, and Advisor Aditya Nath Das.
Following these consultations and internal deliberations, the government proceeded with formal procedures to engage the central investigative agency.
