Telangana taps digital creators to boost tourism and economic growth

Hyderabad: The Telangana government is banking on digital creators and influencers to amplify its tourism brand, with Tourism, Culture and Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao calling on content makers to showcase the state's cultural riches to a worldwide audience.
Speaking at the "Telangana Tourism Creators Meet" held at Tourism Plaza in Begumpet on Thursday, Krishna Rao emphasized that social media platforms and digital influencers would be central to the state's tourism expansion strategy. He appealed to creators to highlight Telangana's heritage sites, scenic landscapes, traditional art forms and renowned hospitality across their networks.
The gathering was held as part of Tourism Week, a component of the government's "Praja Palana – Pragathi Pranalika" 99-day action plan.
Tourism as an economic lever
Krishna Rao underscored tourism's potential as a catalyst for economic development, job creation and cultural preservation. He pointed out that expanded tourism activities could generate employment for local youth while channelling substantial revenue to the state exchequer. Beyond direct economic benefits, he noted that tourism income could be redirected toward strengthening healthcare infrastructure, educational institutions and amenities at tourist destinations.
Encouraging domestic tourism and wellness
The minister also pushed for residents within Telangana to discover the state's own attractions, noting that tourism need not require extravagant spending. He suggested that mindful budgeting and time spent at scenic locations could help individuals reduce stress and enhance mental health.
To support this vision, the government is implementing infrastructure improvements and visitor amenities to attract domestic, international and intra-state travellers. Measures include maintaining cleanliness standards and basic facilities at tourist sites, along with the introduction of modern tent-based accommodation options.
Krishna Rao added that underutilized Haritha hotels and tourism properties would be reclaimed and redeveloped to boost both visitor experience and revenue generation.
Digital expansion and cultural showcase
During the event, Krishna Rao inaugurated new social media channels for the Telangana Tourism Department, including a Meta account and an official Instagram handle. A promotional film titled "Timeless Telangana" was screened, featuring the state's historical monuments, heritage architecture, traditional handicrafts, handlooms and Kalamkari artistry.
