JioHotstar and Swiggy Partner to Transform Cricket Viewing with Live Food Ordering

Chennai: A significant milestone in streaming innovation has arrived as JioHotstar rolled out a groundbreaking native food ordering integration with Swiggy, fundamentally reshaping how audiences experience live cricket.
The partnership brings together the streaming giant and the food delivery leader to create an ecosystem where viewers can discover restaurants, browse menus, claim special offers tied to match moments, complete purchases, and monitor delivery status—all without pausing their live stream. Built specifically for mobile users, the feature has already captured the attention of more than 37 million users navigating the ongoing cricket season.
The service extends across 690+ cities, with the integration built on principles of contextual engagement. Viewers encounter exclusive promotions triggered by specific match events, enabling them to move seamlessly from browsing to transaction within the JioHotstar environment. The platform has moved beyond simply introducing products to facilitating real-time commerce within the viewing experience.
Early data from the rollout reveals intriguing shifts in consumption behaviour. Burgers have emerged as the dominant choice among cricket viewers, surpassing biryani in popularity during matches. The trend toward impulse purchases has intensified dramatically, with one individual placing 34 orders throughout the season. A particularly striking example involved a single transaction comprising over 100 burgers, illustrating the scale of group-based consumption during critical match moments.
User engagement metrics demonstrate sustained interest and substantial transaction values. One order reached ₹6,801, while another user accumulated savings exceeding ₹12,947 by leveraging match-specific discounts. Delivery times have proven remarkably efficient, with some orders reaching customers in just 10 minutes and 42 seconds.
Geographic patterns in ordering activity show Mumbai Indians fixtures generating the highest volumes overall. The RCB versus Rajasthan Royals encounter produced the single highest peak for a matchday. Cities including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Delhi lead national trends, with emerging markets like Patna and Pune demonstrating strong participation. Match intensity appears to influence purchasing behaviour, with closely contested games driving elevated ordering activity.
The collaboration reflects what both companies describe as the "order while you watch" consumer mindset. JioHotstar has positioned the initiative within its broader strategy to enhance match-time engagement through AI-powered discovery mechanisms, interactive viewing formats, and real-time commerce capabilities. Swiggy emphasizes its commitment to delivering convenience to users who naturally multitask during live sports.
Ishan Chatterjee, CEO of Sports at Jiostar, framed the partnership as emblematic of evolving entertainment landscapes. "We are witnessing a convergence where content and commerce boundaries blur," he stated. "Streaming platforms will function as integrated ecosystems that recognize and facilitate user intentions in real time. Combining live sports with real-time commerce represents an early manifestation of that trajectory, where participation transcends passive viewing."
Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, noted that food ordering has become integral to the match-viewing experience. "Live sports have transformed into highly interactive occasions where audiences naturally multitask while remaining engaged," he explained. "Our collaboration with JioHotstar enables fans to enjoy their preferred food and the match simultaneously, without sacrificing either experience."
The rollout is supported by the "Match On, Munch On" campaign, emphasizing spontaneity and fan behaviour during live cricket. The campaign tagline—"Iss cricket season… JioHotstar pe 'Swiggy' karo. Tap. Order. Eat. Repeat. Match On. Munch On."—appears across digital channels, social platforms, and the JioStar television network, bridging on-air moments with in-app functionality.
The initiative represents part of JioHotstar's wider ecosystem development, where viewing experiences extend beyond consumption into interactive and contextual engagement. Previous platform innovations, including Shop The Look, Conversational Voice Discovery, and personalised engagement pathways, demonstrate the company's commitment to evolving around contemporary audience preferences and participation patterns.
