Railway Police Dismantle Major Drug Smuggling Network at Secunderabad Station

The Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force jointly conducted a crackdown on May 4 at Secunderabad Railway Station, successfully dismantling an interstate cannabis smuggling network and seizing 14.322 kg of ganja.
During surprise inspections carried out on platforms and aboard trains, authorities arrested one individual involved in the operation. A second suspect connected to the smuggling ring remains at large.
The apprehended smuggler was identified as Jawahar Kumar, originally from Bihar. Prior to his involvement in the trafficking operation, Kumar had been employed as a labourer in Odisha.
Investigators revealed that the absconding accused, Akhilesh Kumar, had recruited Kumar to participate in the smuggling scheme. The arrangement offered Kumar Rs 7,000 for each shipment transported.
On May 3, Kumar received a trolley suitcase packed with cannabis packets. He boarded the Visakha Express from Balugaon station in Odisha, placing the suitcase beneath his seat for concealment during the journey. The train arrived at Secunderabad on May 4, where Kumar waited for contact from his handlers.
Railway police intercepted Kumar during routine checks at the station platform. The subsequent search led to the recovery of 14.322 kg of ganja from his possession. The contraband was estimated to be worth Rs 7.16 lakh.
Authorities have initiated legal proceedings under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue efforts to locate the primary accused. The operation was conducted under the oversight of senior railway police officials.
