Instant Working Capital Loans Transform Corporate Financing Dynamics, Says Kotak Mahindra Bank

April 26, 2026

Kotak Mahindra Bank has scaled up its instant Working Capital Demand Loans following a successful pilot that saw the lender disburse more than Rs. 9,000 crore, signalling a fundamental shift in how corporations are managing their short-term financing requirements.

The service eliminates the friction that has long characterised corporate lending, enabling eligible companies to tap working capital within seconds via a streamlined digital platform. This represents a marked departure from conventional processes that required manual intervention and adherence to fixed banking hours, even when credit limits had already been sanctioned.

"Customers are now accessing working capital when the requirement arises, rather than planning around banking timelines," said Anu Aggarwal, President and Head of Corporate & Transaction Banking at Kotak Mahindra Bank.

Working capital loans rank among the most utilised banking products for corporates, funding routine operational needs including inventory acquisition, vendor settlements and payroll processing. Historically, despite pre-approval, actual disbursement remained constrained by operational schedules and processing timelines.

The bank's corporate digital platform, branded fyn (for your needs), has fundamentally altered this dynamic. Companies now submit requests by providing essential details—loan amount and duration—after which pricing calculations and verification checks proceed automatically, with funds transferred almost instantaneously.

"We have reduced disbursement time from several hours to a few seconds," Aggarwal noted, emphasising that this capability allows enterprises to address operational demands as they emerge, rather than maintaining excess reserves merely to compensate for processing delays.

Early data reveals a notable behavioural transformation. Corporates are increasingly submitting requests during late business hours, no longer constrained by traditional cut-off times that previously dictated submission deadlines.

"Earlier, customers had to submit requests before fixed hours. That constraint is no longer there for eligible customers," Aggarwal explained.

During the pilot phase, adoption proved strongest among small and mid-sized enterprises and mid-market companies, where even marginal delays in accessing working capital can create operational disruptions. The bank is now extending access to larger corporations and conglomerates.

The emphasis on working capital underscores its significance in corporate banking architecture. Bank analysis suggests approximately 70 percent of corporate loan interactions involve working capital requirements, making it among the most frequent touchpoints between companies and financial institutions.

Aggarwal characterised instant working capital loans as transformative for corporate banking, particularly given the volatility in business cycles and the prevalence of delayed payment collection. "Corporates increasingly expect banking processes to move at the pace of their business," she stated.

Industry analysts observe that while retail banking in India embraced instant payments and real-time access years ago, corporate lending operations evolved more gradually due to inherent procedural complexities. The current momentum suggests that automation is now being deployed to frequent, standardised corporate loan transactions rather than remaining limited to customer-facing interfaces.

The instant loan functionality integrates within Kotak's comprehensive fyn platform ecosystem, which encompasses payments, collections, trade finance services and credit products. The bank has simultaneously been automating routine administrative services including account statements, tax documentation and reconciliation processes, while pursuing deeper system integration with corporate clients.

The extent to which instant working capital loans become industry standard hinges on broader adoption across the banking sector. For corporations already utilising the facility, the benefits are immediately apparent. What originated as a technological enhancement is reshaping how companies secure short-term capital and synchronise funding availability with actual business operations.
