Instamart's Creative Twist on Exam Day Rituals: The "OPD" Outside NEET Centres

Thousands of medical aspirants converging on NEET examination centres this past weekend encountered an unexpected welcome: a branded van dispensing dahi-cheeni, the time-honoured Indian tradition believed to bring good fortune and confidence before important life events.

The initiative, a collaboration between quick commerce platform Instamart and creative agency Youngun, brought this cherished ritual directly to exam gates at select centres. For generations, Indian households have observed the practice of consuming yoghurt and sugar before exams, interviews, and significant moments, viewing it as a source of encouragement and positive energy.

The centrepiece of the campaign was a vehicle christened the "OPD" – standing for Official Pre-Exam Dahi-Cheeni. Students received specially curated packages containing a bowl of dahi, a packet of sugar, and an encouraging message as they approached their test halls. The van greeted visitors with the tagline, "Welcome to the OPD (Official Pre-Exam Dahi-Cheeni)," while each distributed box bore the inscription, "All the best, future doc!"

Complementing the van was an interactive selfie mirror displaying the message, "You've got this, future doc" – designed to give aspiring medical professionals a moment of reflection and a chance to visualise their success.

The campaign resonated strongly across social media platforms. Students and parents alike praised the gesture, with digital engagement highlighting the intersection of cultural values, community spirit, and brand activation. Social media commentary included remarks such as, "Not all heroes wear capes, some distribute dahi cheeni outside NEET centres" and "No way they opened an OPD outside the NEET centre – Official Pre Exam Dahi & Cheeni Centre."

By merging tradition with contemporary engagement strategies, Instamart transformed a familiar superstition into a tangible moment of support for India's future medical professionals. The activation underscores the company's positioning around meaningful participation in life's decisive junctures, this instance converting a quick commerce service into a symbol of encouragement for the nation's medical aspirants.

NEET remains among India's most intensely contested entrance examinations, attracting candidates nationwide and generating considerable anticipation among students and their families as they prepare for this pivotal test.
