The Telangana government is set to begin the second phase of its Indiramma housing initiative from Adilabad starting June 2, continuing its commitment to provide permanent housing for economically disadvantaged families across the state.

Revenue, Housing and Information Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy outlined the government's vision during a review meeting, emphasizing that homeownership represents both dignity and financial security for poor households. The scheme, being executed under the direction of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, provides Rs 5 lakh in financial support with complete subsidy coverage for house construction—a model the minister claimed remains unmatched by any other Indian state.

In the first phase, the government sanctioned over three lakh houses, with approximately 2.90 lakh already grounded. Nearly 50,000 families have already moved into their new residences. Currently, construction work is progressing on more than two lakh houses at various stages, with officials targeting completion within two months.

Each constituency has been allocated 3,500 houses, with additional allocations provided to constituencies situated in ITDA areas. The government has sanctioned 3,500 houses per constituency and provided extra allocations for constituencies in ITDA regions.

During the review meeting held Friday at Housing Corporation headquarters for the combined Khammam and Warangal districts, Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy directed officials to clear outstanding bills for pilot village houses exceeding 600 square feet. He instructed forest officials and Singareni management to refrain from obstructing poor families from constructing houses on their current hut locations.

The minister also requested that district collectors facilitate soil transportation from tanks and ponds for house foundation work without unnecessary delays.

Addressing land-related challenges, the minister noted that both Khammam and Warangal districts contain substantial forest areas with existing boundary disputes between revenue and forest departments. He directed both departments to undertake coordinated surveys and permanently resolve these disputes, with instructions to utilize recently acquired rovers for surveys involving patta lands and forest boundaries.

Beneficiaries who previously received up to Rs 20,000 under the earlier united Andhra Pradesh Indiramma housing scheme will also qualify for the new programme. The minister emphasized that the second phase will incorporate feedback from public representatives and suggestions gathered during ongoing meetings with elected officials.

District collectors have been instructed to complete beneficiary selection for all pending 2BHK houses by month-end, with strict emphasis on transparency and ensuring assistance reaches only eligible poor families. Officials have also been ordered to expedite electricity, drinking water, and drainage infrastructure in double-bedroom housing colonies.

The government plans to continue the programme through third and fourth phases until every eligible beneficiary receives housing assistance. The review meeting was attended by Khammam in-charge minister Vakiti Srihari, Ministers Danasari Anasuya Seethakka, Konda Surekha, and Ponnam Prabhakar, MPs Vamsi Krishna and P. Balaram Naik, along with district collectors and officials from housing, revenue, and forest departments.
