Telangana to Roll Out Indiramma Bheema Insurance on State Formation Day

Telangana's Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka has confirmed that the state will roll out the Indiramma Bheema insurance programme on June 2, coinciding with State Formation Day celebrations. The scheme represents a significant welfare initiative designed to shield 1.15 crore households from economic hardship, with coverage extended across all social groups irrespective of caste, faith, or income status.
According to Bhatti, the Congress government remains committed to fulfilling electoral promises and channelling welfare assistance directly to economically disadvantaged populations. The insurance programme specifically addresses the vulnerability families face when they lose their primary earner in an accident, he explained.
Each qualifying household will receive ₹5 lakh in coverage under the scheme. To expedite implementation, government representatives will undertake door-to-door visits to gather beneficiary information and enrol eligible families.
Bhatti drew a stark contrast with the previous administration, pointing out that families of farmers who took their own lives had struggled to obtain even modest financial support under the earlier regime. This gap in protection prompted the current government to establish a comprehensive safety net through the Indiramma Bheema framework.
Solar Power Initiative for Women's Groups
The Deputy Chief Minister outlined an accompanying programme aimed at empowering women economically rather than confining them to welfare recipient status. A scheme distributing solar power installations to women's self-help groups will be inaugurated on May 27 in Rajupalem village within Errupalem mandal of Madhira constituency.
The government is channelling ₹20,000 crore annually as interest-free credit to women's collectives, with capacity to scale up to ₹1 lakh crore if circumstances demand, Bhatti stated. Women across Telangana already benefit from complimentary public transport, and the administration plans to introduce 550 dedicated RTC buses for women entrepreneurs. The state has set an ambitious target of creating one crore women millionaires.
Broader Welfare Initiatives
Bhatti highlighted several other welfare programmes currently operational. Premium rice is being distributed without charge to 1.06 crore households. The Gruhajyothi electricity scheme has brought relief to 53 lakh families by providing free power up to 200 units monthly, with nearly 95% of households in certain villages receiving zero bills.
Criticising the previous BRS government's housing promises as deceptive, Bhatti noted that the current administration is providing ₹5 lakh assistance to poor families for home construction. The state has already sanctioned 4.5 lakh houses, with the Cabinet recently approving an additional 2 lakh units. Eliminating thatched dwellings remains a core government objective.
