IIM Kozhikode and Emeritus Launch Third Batch of CFO Programme with Kellogg Partnership
The Chief Financial Officer role has undergone a significant transformation, moving far beyond traditional accounting and compliance responsibilities to encompass strategic leadership and organizational transformation. According to PwC's 2024 CFO Insights Pulse Survey, this shift is evident in current priorities: 53% of finance leaders are reassessing investment approaches to enhance margins, while 66% view mergers and acquisitions as critical growth mechanisms. Notably, 53% of finance executives are accelerating adoption of digital tools including data analytics, artificial intelligence, automation, and cloud infrastructure—technologies now integral to contemporary financial management.
These developments underscore a broader evolution in how chief financial officers contribute to their organizations. Rather than serving solely as custodians of financial processes, today's CFOs function as strategic catalysts, fostering innovation, enabling cross-departmental coordination, and championing sustainable business expansion.
Responding to this transformation, India's premier business schools have begun enhancing their executive education offerings. The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode, which holds the 3rd position in the Ministry of Education's 2025 NIRF rankings, has joined forces with Emeritus to introduce the third cohort of its Chief Financial Officer Programme. The initiative uniquely incorporates an online certificate component delivered through Kellogg Executive Education, ensuring participants gain internationally-informed expertise alongside rigorous financial leadership training.
The programme spans 11 months and targets both emerging CFOs and experienced financial executives, particularly those navigating new responsibilities in the chief financial officer role. Prospective participants must hold a graduate or diploma qualification from an accredited institution—recognized by UGC, AICTE, DEC, AIU, state governments, or international accreditation bodies—along with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience.
The curriculum addresses the multifaceted demands of contemporary financial leadership. Core components include mastery of data-informed financial strategy, navigating complex transactions including mergers, acquisitions, and initial public offerings with strategic acumen, implementing rigorous risk management frameworks, and integrating ethical governance and corporate accountability into organizational practice. The programme also emphasizes innovation methodologies, leveraging design thinking to develop creative financial solutions, and harnessing artificial intelligence and digital technologies for competitive advantage.
Pedagogical approaches combine multiple learning modalities. Participants engage with business simulations focused on strategic finance, collaborate through peer learning networks, and complete a capstone project supervised by IIM Kozhikode faculty. Specialized modules explore economic dynamics and international considerations, financial market mechanisms, corporate finance methodologies, valuation frameworks, performance management systems, artificial intelligence applications in finance, growth strategy development, corporate governance standards, and transformational C-level leadership.
Avnish Singhal, President of India and APAC operations at Emeritus, emphasized the programme's relevance: "Today's financial leaders must anticipate shifts and respond to emerging developments to maintain strategic value. This programme delivers comprehensive instruction spanning financial strategy, risk governance, and technology-driven transformation. By strengthening analytical capabilities and strategic judgment, participants develop the competencies to address sophisticated financial scenarios, catalyze organizational innovation, and position their enterprises for enduring expansion. Our collaboration with IIM Kozhikode reflects our commitment to delivering transformative education. We are confident participants will strengthen their financial decision-making capabilities, enhance resource optimization, and bolster profitability, establishing durable financial strength and organizational adaptability."
Successful completion requires maintaining at least 75% attendance. Graduates receive a certificate from IIM Kozhikode and eligibility for Executive Alumni designation. Those achieving a minimum 80% grade in each Kellogg online module additionally receive verified digital credentials from Kellogg Executive Education.
