Hyderabad Traffic Police Crackdown on Underage Driving Poses Legal Risks for Parents

Hyderabad's traffic authorities have intensified their push against underage driving, warning that permitting minors to operate vehicles constitutes a serious breach that can trigger legal action against parents and guardians.

Through a road safety initiative, the Hyderabad Traffic Police emphasised that entrusting a vehicle to an underage driver creates hazards for the young person as well as other road users. Department officials noted that such transgressions invite fines and prosecution under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The authorities underscored that only drivers possessing a valid licence are authorised to drive on public roads. Officials called upon parents and guardians to prevent children from operating motorcycles, automobiles or any other vehicles until they reach the prescribed legal age and secure the necessary licence.

According to the police, addressing underage driving is a collective undertaking and urged residents to participate in initiatives designed to strengthen road safety throughout Hyderabad.

Understanding the Risks

Officials pointed out that accidents involving underage drivers are frequently attributed to insufficient driving experience, inadequate awareness of road conditions and lack of legal authorisation. They stressed that vigilant oversight by parents and guardians can avert tragic outcomes.

The awareness effort reinforced the principle "No Licence. No Driving," calling on families to give precedence to safety and adherence to traffic laws.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police stated that their ongoing road safety programmes aim to minimise traffic offences and establish safer conditions for vehicle operators, pedestrians and young people across the metropolitan area.
