Hyderabad Police Arrest Man for Using Fake Number Plate on Motorcycle

Hyderabad Traffic Police have arrested a man for operating a motorcycle with a counterfeit registration plate during routine enforcement operations in the city. The case was subsequently handed over to Banjara Hills police for further action.
The accused has been identified as Gaikwad Navanath, 40 years old, residing in Gokulnagar, Mallepally. Investigators discovered that he had affixed the fraudulent registration number AP11AA6077 to his Hero Passion Plus motorcycle. Police determined that Navanath employed the fake plate specifically to circumvent traffic challans and mislead traffic enforcement personnel.
The misuse of the counterfeit registration number resulted in traffic violations being incorrectly issued against the legitimate vehicle owner. The actual registration number belongs to a Honda Shine motorcycle registered to Vikky Paswan of Rajendranagar.
Authorities have registered a First Information Report (FIR No. 434/2026) at Banjara Hills Police Station, invoking Sections 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 192(1) read with 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Additionally, the accused has been served notice under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita. The investigation is ongoing to verify the original registration details of the motorcycle in question.
In light of this case, Hyderabad Traffic Police have issued a public advisory cautioning residents against using fake, identical, or altered registration plates. Officials emphasised that such violations would result in stringent legal consequences.
The traffic police department stated that it continues to deploy sophisticated surveillance infrastructure, including CCTV cameras and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems, to detect and apprehend offences related to fraudulent vehicle registration plates.
Members of the public are encouraged to report any misuse of vehicle registration numbers through multiple channels: the Hyderabad Traffic e-Challan portal, official email correspondence, or the WhatsApp helpline.
