Man Arrested in Hyderabad for Operating Two-Wheeler with Fraudulent Number Plate

Hyderabad Traffic Police have arrested a man for operating a two-wheeler with a counterfeit registration plate during routine enforcement operations across the city.
The suspect, identified as Susender Chidambaram, 30, hailing from Sai Nagar in Mehdipatnam, was taken into custody following an investigation led by Mehdipatnam Police. Officers discovered that he had affixed the registration number TS09FF7061 to his Honda Activa, despite the vehicle never having been officially registered with the Regional Transport Office since its purchase in 2017.
The fraudulent registration created complications for the legitimate owner of the original vehicle bearing the number TS10YTR5376. Multiple traffic challans were wrongfully directed to this genuine owner as a consequence of the misuse, prompting authorities to launch a thorough investigation.
Charges have been filed against Chidambaram under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. Hyderabad Traffic Police have emphasized that the use of forged, altered, or duplicate number plates constitutes a serious criminal offence with significant legal penalties.
The department noted that the detection of such violations has been increasingly aided by surveillance infrastructure, including CCTV networks and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems deployed throughout the city. Residents suspecting misuse of vehicle registration numbers are encouraged to report such cases via the Hyderabad Traffic Police e-Challan portal, official email channels, or the department's WhatsApp helpline.
