Hyderabad Traffic Police have apprehended a 23-year-old man during ongoing enforcement operations in the city for using a forged number plate on his two-wheeler.

G. Sai Ganesh, a resident of Kukatpally, was arrested following an investigation conducted jointly by Hyderabad Traffic Police and Sanathnagar Police. The case has been registered at Sanathnagar Police Station as FIR No. 265/2026.

The accused had affixed the registration number AP21BC2008—which actually belongs to a Honda Unicorn—on his motorcycle, while the vehicle's genuine registration was AP21AV6721. By using the fraudulent plate, authorities said the man attempted to circumvent traffic enforcement actions and mislead police officials.

The scheme resulted in traffic violations committed by the accused being incorrectly attributed to the legitimate vehicle owner, P.S. Mohammed Jaffer of Nandyal district.

Legal charges have been filed against the accused under Section 318(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 80(a) of the Motor Vehicles Act. Additionally, a notice was issued under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

Authorities have cautioned the public that the use of counterfeit, identical, or altered registration plates constitutes a criminal offence. Traffic police stated that advanced surveillance infrastructure, including CCTV networks and Automatic Number Plate Recognition systems, enables the detection of such violations.

The department has urged citizens to report suspected misuse of vehicle registration plates through available channels: the e-challan portal, the official helpdesk email, or the WhatsApp helpline.
