Hyderabad Police Recover Stolen Motorcycle Used with Fraudulent Registration Plate

Hyderabad Traffic Police have cracked a case involving the fraudulent use of vehicle registration numbers, leading to the recovery of a stolen motorcycle that had been fitted with a fake number plate.
The investigation began when D. Satyanarayana, a resident of Chinthal in Ranga Reddy district, reported that his vehicle registration number AP28CJ8911 was being used illegally. The legitimate registration belonged to a Passion Pro motorcycle.
Through their inquiry, officers identified Lal Mohammed, 48, from Mallepally as the individual operating the vehicle with the forged plate. Further checks revealed that the motorcycle itself was stolen property. The two-wheeler's actual owner was Eshwar Prasad Chourasia from Ramanthapur, with the correct registration number AP29AM8979.
The motorcycle had been reported as stolen under Crime No. 473/2023 at Musheerabad Police Station on December 4, 2023. During interrogation, the accused claimed he had purchased the two-wheeler from an unknown seller via an online marketplace during 2024.
The recovered vehicle has been handed over to Musheerabad Police Station for continued investigation and documentation.
Police have issued a reminder that using fake, altered, or counterfeit number plates constitutes a serious violation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. The Traffic Police department employs CCTV surveillance and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera technology to identify such infractions.
Authorities have urged the public to conduct thorough verification of registration documents, owner details, engine numbers, and chassis numbers when purchasing vehicles to avoid becoming unwitting participants in vehicle theft cases.
