Hyderabad's Regional Passport Office is gearing up for a special passport mela scheduled for May 9, aimed at tackling the surge in applications expected during the summer months.

The office will make available 4,000 extra appointment slots under the normal processing category, according to Regional Passport Officer J. Snehaja. Of these, 3,100 slots have been allocated to Passport Seva Kendras operating at Begumpet, MGBS Metro, and Raidurg across Hyderabad, while the remaining 900 slots are earmarked for centres in Karimnagar and Nizamabad.

The initiative carries a specific scope: applicants seeking Tatkal services or Police Clearance Certificates will not benefit from these additional slots.

Reducing the Wait

Currently, individuals seeking passport appointments face a waiting period of eight to ten days. The office projects that the special drive will compress this timeline to five to seven days, substantially easing the pressure during peak season.

Separately, the Karimnagar Passport Seva Kendra will expand its operational capacity starting May 4. The centre is set to increase its daily appointment availability from 220 to 400, effectively doubling its processing capability.

Applicants are encouraged to secure their appointment slots through the official passport services online portal rather than visiting centres in person.

The Regional Passport Office has rolled out these measures to address the heightened demand for passport services as the summer season approaches.
