Hyderabad Police Nab Rowdy Sheeter for Alleged Extortion of Builder

Hyderabad police have apprehended a rowdy sheeter in connection with the extortion of a city-based builder, marking another case in a pattern of alleged criminal intimidation targeting the construction sector.

The arrest was made by Dabeerpura police on June 22, following a complaint from the builder who alleged that the accused had demanded Rs 50 lakh and subjected him to persistent threats.

The suspect, identified as Habeeb Ali Baghdadi, 57, operates as a businessman from King Koti and maintains status as a rowdy sheeter registered at Abids Police Station. Police have registered a formal case—Crime No. 103/2026—invoking Sections 329(4), 308(6), 351(2), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

According to the complaint lodged with authorities, Baghdadi allegedly made multiple visits to a construction site in Azampura where he intimidated both the builder and his workforce. During these confrontations, he reportedly displayed a knife and made threats of serious harm while pressing his monetary demands. Investigators also noted that he threatened to implicate the complainant in criminal cases should the payment not be forthcoming.

The investigation has revealed a broader pattern of criminal conduct. Police allege that Baghdadi has systematically targeted builders and proprietors of newly constructed properties. His modus operandi, according to investigators, involved identifying suspected regulatory violations at these sites and subsequently distributing related material across social media platforms. He then allegedly leveraged these violations as grounds to demand money while threatening to lodge complaints with relevant government departments.

Baghdadi's criminal record spans multiple jurisdictions within Hyderabad. Cases registered against him at both Abids and Narayanguda police stations include charges of extortion, criminal intimidation, trespass, cheating, and various other offences.

The investigation is being conducted by Sub-Inspector N. Naveen under the supervision of Inspector P. Upashankar. Senior officials from the Charminar Zone are overseeing the case as inquiries continue.
