The Saifabad Police have cracked down on a cannabis trafficking network, leading to the arrest of two women suspected of ferrying over 21 kilograms of ganja across state lines from Visakhapatnam to Mumbai.

Following an intelligence lead, law enforcement officers apprehended the suspects on May 29 near the Lakdikapul Railway Station car park. The search operation yielded 21.251 kg of cannabis distributed across 19 separate packets, all concealed within three suitcases. Authorities valued the seized contraband at several lakhs of rupees.

The detained individuals are identified as Tippigiri Laxmi, alias Bugamma, aged 43 and originally from Narayanpet but currently based in Mumbai, and Sandipkaur Makkhan Singh, 60, a Mumbai resident. During interrogation, both women revealed they had sourced the ganja from a supplier operating in Visakhapatnam with the intention of distributing it in Mumbai.

ACP R. Sanjay Kumar of the Saifabad Division oversaw the operation, which also resulted in the confiscation of three luggage bags and two mobile phones believed to have been used in the trafficking scheme.

Investigation officials have identified two additional suspects linked to the operation—identified as Baby and Sampath—who are currently at large. The case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with Additional Inspector of Police N. Rajender of Saifabad Police Station heading the inquiry.

Authorities are pursuing leads to map the broader interstate network involved in the trafficking operation and identify other persons connected to the racket. The operation involved coordination between ACP R. Sanjay Kumar, Station House Officer A. Seethiah, Additional Inspector N. Rajender, and other members of the Saifabad Police team.
