Hyderabad Resident Held for Creating and Distributing AI-Generated Fake Police Videos

Law enforcement agencies in Hyderabad have apprehended a 27-year-old man for manufacturing fabricated police videos using artificial intelligence technology and sharing them across social media platforms.
The accused, identified as Mohammed Abubakar Ali Tabassum, worked as a delivery executive. According to investigators, he leveraged AI-based software to generate videos in which he posed as a police officer, apparently to gain social media followers and engagement.
The videos in question contained depictions of weapons and presented Tabassum in a law enforcement capacity, raising concerns about their potential to cause public confusion and alarm among viewers. Authorities determined that the content could easily deceive social media audiences unfamiliar with the fabrication techniques employed.
The Commissioner's Task Force operating in Rajendranagar Zone, working jointly with Kalapathar Police, arrested Tabassum within the limits of Mailardevpally Police Station. During the arrest, officers seized a mobile phone valued at ₹10,000, which the accused had used to commit the offence.
Police have registered a case under Section 205 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Sections 66 and 66D of the Information Technology Act. Investigators have also recovered additional incriminating material from the suspect.
The probe remains ongoing as law enforcement works to determine whether any associates were involved in the creation and distribution of the deceptive content.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner commended the efforts of both the Rajendranagar Task Force and Kalapathar Police teams, with special recognition for DCP Task Force Vibhav Gaikwad's oversight.
Authorities have issued a public advisory urging citizens to exercise caution when encountering unverified content on social media platforms. Police emphasize that official information should be obtained exclusively from verified government sources rather than relying on unconfirmed online material.
