Hyderabad's traffic authorities have intensified their war against impaired driving, with enforcement personnel apprehending 351 violators during a concentrated two-day operation spanning May 8 and 9. The initiative aimed to strengthen road safety measures throughout the metropolitan area.

The enforcement action captured a cross-section of traffic violators: 292 individuals riding motorcycles and scooters, 30 operating auto-rickshaws, and 29 driving cars and other vehicles were found to be driving while intoxicated.

Blood alcohol concentration measurements painted a sobering picture of the offences detected. Testing data indicated that 69 drivers registered BAC readings in the 30-50 range, while 146 cases showed levels between 51 and 100. Sixty-five drivers exhibited BAC measurements spanning 101 to 150.

The severity escalated further up the scale, with authorities recording 44 cases in the 151-200 BAC bracket, 15 instances in the 201-250 range, and seven drivers in the 251-300 category. Most alarmingly, five individuals were identified with BAC levels exceeding 300.

Traffic authorities have made clear their commitment to maintaining stringent oversight of drunk driving violations. Officials emphasised that offenders would face uncompromising enforcement, with public safety remaining the paramount concern.

The department has urged residents to refrain from getting behind the wheel after alcohol consumption and has appealed for public cooperation with traffic enforcement personnel. Regular special operations targeting impaired driving are planned to curtail accident rates stemming from intoxicated motorists.

To promote safer commuting practices, particularly during evening and weekend hours, traffic police have recommended that citizens opt for public transportation services, ride-hailing platforms, or arrange for sober designated drivers.
