A 44-year-old resident of Hyderabad has been handed a 60-day prison sentence for subjecting his elderly parents to harassment and mistreatment in the Narayanguda locality.

The V Special Judicial Magistrate Court at Nampally pronounced the verdict on Friday. The accused, identified as G. Srinivas, works as a private employee and lives within the Narayanguda Police Station jurisdiction.

The elderly couple lodged a formal complaint with police after enduring sustained ill-treatment from their son. Investigators registered charges against Srinivas under Section 70B of the City Police Act and Section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Sub-Inspector J. Srikanth Reddy from Narayanguda Police Station led the investigation, gathering evidence that was subsequently presented to the court. Judge M. Bhasker examined the case and found Srinivas culpable of the charges. Beyond the imprisonment order, the court also imposed a fine of Rs. 50 on the convict.

Police officials characterised the judgment as a significant deterrent against elder abuse. They emphasised their dedication to safeguarding senior citizens from mistreatment and abandonment, cautioning that those who neglect or abuse aged parents face stringent legal consequences.

Authorities encouraged elderly individuals experiencing harassment to approach law enforcement without apprehension, assuring them of swift action and protection.
