Himayat Sagar Readied for Monsoon Season With Enhanced Safety Protocols

Hyderabad — Senior police officials have completed a detailed assessment of safety arrangements at Himayat Sagar ahead of the approaching monsoon, examining the dam's readiness to handle potential heavy rainfall and water management challenges.

Rajendranagar Zone DCP S. Srinivas conducted the inspection on Monday, touring the dam infrastructure and surrounding localities alongside personnel from both police and irrigation departments. The visit came shortly after Rajendranagar MLA T. Prakash Goud initiated the annual pre-monsoon water release procedure by opening one of the dam's gates on Sunday.

During the inspection, officials evaluated contingency plans that would come into effect if substantial precipitation necessitated the simultaneous operation of all 17 dam gates to discharge excess water. The assessment also focused on identifying vulnerabilities that could affect downstream communities and residents in catchment zones, with particular attention given to sensitive areas intersecting the Outer Ring Road corridor.

The DCP instructed departments to establish protective barriers at high-risk zones and maintain heightened vigilance throughout the monsoon period. S. Srinivas emphasized that coordinated efforts across agencies would be essential to safeguarding residents and enhancing the effectiveness of emergency response systems during periods of intense rainfall.

Officials stressed the importance of inter-departmental coordination to ensure swift action and minimize potential damage to life and property during the monsoon months ahead.
