Heritage Department Launches Cleanliness Campaign at Gunfoundry Monument in Hyderabad

The Department of Heritage Telangana has undertaken a cleanliness initiative at the Gunfoundry, one of Hyderabad's historically significant protected monuments, as part of broader efforts to combine public hygiene with cultural heritage conservation.

Spearheaded by Prof. Arjun Rao Kuthadi, Director of Heritage Telangana, the campaign was executed in collaboration with Deccan Heritage Academy Trust and the INTACH Hyderabad chapter. The programme drew participation from government officials, heritage conservation specialists, community volunteers, and local residents.

The drive centered on two key objectives: fostering public consciousness around cleanliness standards and reinforcing the importance of maintaining and protecting heritage monuments. Participants engaged in systematic cleaning operations throughout the Gunfoundry premises, while organizers simultaneously conducted educational sessions addressing best practices for keeping heritage sites in pristine and environmentally responsible condition.

Speaking during the event, Dr P. Nagaraju, Deputy Director (Museum), underscored the historical significance that monuments such as Gunfoundry hold for India's cultural identity. He emphasized that safeguarding these structures remains a shared responsibility requiring consistent commitment from citizens alongside formal conservation initiatives. He called for intensified public engagement in the ongoing work of preserving such heritage assets.

Organizers noted that the campaign garnered substantial enthusiasm from participating stakeholders and successfully amplified messaging on the twin imperatives of monument preservation and public cleanliness.
