Four Dead as Telangana Swelters Under Extreme Heat, Mercury Climbs to 46°C

The state of Telangana is reeling from a severe heatwave that claimed four lives on Monday as temperatures soared to 46°C, the highest recorded so far this season.
The extreme weather conditions proved fatal across multiple districts. Three individuals succumbed to heatstroke, while a fourth death occurred when lightning struck a farmer working in his field.
Nizamabad district experienced the most intense heat, reaching 46°C. The nearby districts of Adilabad, Nirmal, and Peddapalli all recorded 45.9°C. Across the state, numerous other districts reported temperatures exceeding 45°C. In Hyderabad city proper, certain areas saw temperatures climb to 42.5°C.
The toll on human life was distributed across several regions. In Mancherial district, 56-year-old Bhogarapu Marayya died from heatstroke. Dasharatham Soumya, aged 19, perished from the same cause in Peddapalli district. An elderly man of unidentified name also died from heatstroke in Narayanpet district.
The fourth fatality involved farmer Kurmarangu Jangaiah, 51, who was struck by lightning while working in his field in Sangareddy district.
A brief respite arrived as evening fell, bringing light rainfall to parts of Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and Medchal districts, providing momentary relief from the oppressive conditions.
Looking ahead, the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has cautioned that the heatwave is expected to persist for three more days, with temperatures potentially increasing by a further 1 to 2 degrees Celsius. Northern Telangana districts are anticipated to remain under heatwave conditions, though scattered light rainfall may occur in some pockets.
