Foundation of National Strength Lies in Public Health, Says Governor Shukla

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla underscored the critical link between public wellbeing and national strength, stressing that a healthy populace forms the bedrock of a powerful nation. He noted that the Union government has prioritized healthcare sector advancement under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration.
These remarks came as the Governor served as chief guest at the Healthcare Excellence Awards programme, an event hosted by Zee Telugu News in Hyderabad on Saturday. During the occasion, he recognized medical professionals who have made outstanding contributions to healthcare by presenting them with commemorative awards.
Invoking the Sanskrit adage "Vaidyo Narayano Harihi," Shukla highlighted the profound role of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Beyond treating medical conditions, he noted, these practitioners provide reassurance and instil confidence in communities. The Governor acknowledged India's significant strides in expanding healthcare access, advancing medical research, and fostering technological innovation in recent decades.
He specifically praised Telangana and Hyderabad for establishing themselves as premier destinations for state-of-the-art medical facilities, cutting-edge treatment technologies, and robust pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities.
Major policy initiatives driving healthcare transformation
The Governor pointed to several transformative programmes strengthening the nation's medical infrastructure. These include Ayushman Bharat, the opening of additional AIIMS centres, expansion of medical education institutions, and the Digital Health Mission. He also encouraged the public to participate in the Nasha Mukt Bharat initiative aimed at combating substance abuse.
Reflecting on Hyderabad's contribution during the coronavirus pandemic, Shukla highlighted the development of Covaxin as evidence of India's scientific prowess and commitment to self-sufficiency. He appealed to aspiring medical professionals to balance technical competence with compassion, ethical practice, and humanitarian values throughout their careers.
The Governor extended congratulations to award recipients, participating healthcare organisations, and the event organisers for their roles in advancing medical excellence. MLA Dr. M. Sanjay Kumar, Malla Reddy University Vice-Chairperson Dr. C.H. Preeti Reddy, Zee Telugu News Chief Editor Bharat Kumar, and other dignitaries attended the programme.
