BRS Leader Harish Rao Condemns Congress Administration Over Unfulfilled Farm Pledges

Hyderabad: At a BRS workers' gathering in Achampet Assembly constituency on Monday, T. Harish Rao, the party's deputy floor leader and a former minister, levelled sharp accusations against the Congress-led state administration, charging it with abandoning its electoral pledges to the farming community and neglecting critical welfare initiatives.

The BRS leader contended that the government has withheld ₹29,350 crore in funds designated for the Rythu Bharosa scheme. He asserted that agricultural support has been systematically undermined and that the assurances extended to farmers during campaigning remain unfulfilled.

Harish Rao specifically targeted Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, alleging that the crop bonus commitment has been converted into an empty promise. He also took issue with government plans to restrict agricultural procurement to quantities sourced by the Centre, warning that this approach poses significant risks to farmers growing maize, sorghum, soybean, groundnut, and sunflower. Such restrictions, he cautioned, could prove particularly damaging as the Kharif season approaches.

The opposition leader further argued that the government has deprioritised farmers while channelling resources into what he characterised as wasteful expenditures. He drew attention to budgetary allocations he deemed excessive: a ₹100-crore guest house project, ₹17 crore spent on fencing, football tournaments, and hundreds of crores devoted to advertising campaigns in other states.

Beyond agricultural concerns, Harish Rao highlighted broader economic pressures facing citizens, including elevated petrol and diesel rates, mounting fertiliser expenses, heightened vehicle registration fees, and increased liquor levies. He also criticised delays in processing fee reimbursements for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, describing the situation as creating educational uncertainty for vulnerable sections.

Harish Rao reiterated that the BRS remains committed to championing public grievances and predicted that discontent with the Congress administration is mounting across Telangana.
