BRS Leader Harish Rao Criticises Congress Government Over Welfare Spending

Hyderabad: The BRS deputy floor leader has launched a sharp attack on the Congress administration, contending that it has reneged on its electoral pledges and questioning the utilisation of funds allocated for welfare programmes.

Speaking at a party membership drive and electoral roll revision awareness event in Husnabad on Wednesday, T. Harish Rao asserted that voters were increasingly becoming aware of the disconnect between what Congress had promised and what it has delivered since taking office. He characterised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's political trajectory as built on deception.

Harish Rao highlighted the BRS's contributions to Telangana's growth, but argued that the current government has let down multiple communities since assuming power.

Welfare Fund Allocation Concerns

The BRS leader raised questions about the government's handling of welfare budgets, citing specific figures. Under the ST Sub-Plan, he stated that although ₹2,730 crore was allocated, merely ₹52 crore had been spent, with most of that going towards administrative costs like salaries and utilities.

He further alleged that tribal youth have not secured substantial job prospects under the present regime and observed that no tribal representative holds a Cabinet position in the state government.

Harish Rao extended his criticism to other welfare schemes as well. The SC Corporation received an allocation of ₹5,403 crore, yet he claimed that intended beneficiaries failed to access loans. The BC Corporation, meanwhile, had ₹1,370 crore earmarked but unspent, he added, suggesting that assistance for backward communities existed merely in policy documents rather than in practice.

Electoral Roll Management

During the gathering, Harish Rao also addressed matters relating to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. He instructed party cadres to remain vigilant in ensuring that legitimate voters retain their places on the voter list.

He urged party officials to extend support to voters during the voter grouping and registration procedures and to work in tandem with polling station officers. The BRS leader emphasised the importance of maintaining the names of BRS voters and sympathisers in the electoral register.

The event was attended by former minister Jeevan Reddy, former MP Captain Lakshmikantha Rao, former MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao, former MLA Satish Kumar, district president G.V. Ramakrishna Rao, and other senior party figures.
