Hyderabad's food safety authorities have launched an enforcement action against the loose edible oil trade, convening stakeholders to underscore compliance requirements and the risks posed by unregulated products.

The H-FAST facility in Begumbazar hosted a meeting where Deputy Commissioner of Police Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath outlined expectations for oil manufacturers and suppliers. He emphasized that loose and unbranded edible oil sales must cease immediately, citing serious health hazards and violations of established food safety protocols.

Authorities stressed that all edible oil reaching consumers must be properly packaged and sealed. According to FSSAI guidelines, manufacturers are required to display specific information on packaging: manufacturing dates, expiry dates, batch numbers, license numbers, and oil varieties. The officials also mandated strict hygiene practices throughout processing, storage, and transportation stages.

Adulteration and the mixing of substandard or harmful substances into edible oils remain focal concerns for regulators. Traders were advised to maintain full transparency and prioritize consumer health as part of their operations.

Officials set a 15-day window for all stakeholders to align their practices with regulatory standards. Failure to comply will trigger enforcement action under the Food Safety and Standards Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The directive represents part of a broader initiative to address food adulteration at source and guarantee product safety for the public.

Participants pledged their commitment to adhering to the outlined guidelines during the meeting.
