Telangana Council Chairman Emphasizes Community Role in Implementing Welfare Initiatives

The Chairman of the Telangana Legislative Council, Gutta Sukender Reddy, underscored the necessity of involving communities in successfully executing government initiatives and welfare schemes during a governance programme held in Nalgonda district.
Addressing attendees at a district-level Praja Palana Pragathi Pranalika event on Friday at a venue near the bypass in the district headquarters, Sukender Reddy highlighted the range of welfare schemes the Telangana government has rolled out across different population segments. He noted ongoing programmes including Rythu Bima, Rythu Bharosa, and six key guarantees aimed at supporting farmers and other beneficiary groups.
While acknowledging these efforts, the Chairman identified persistent challenges across multiple sectors that demand urgent focus. He encouraged farming communities to embrace crop diversification and deepen their understanding of modern cultivation techniques adapted to shifting weather patterns and climate variations.
Sukender Reddy also flagged concerns about declining livestock populations and called on citizens to contribute constructively to problem-solving rather than creating additional difficulties. He identified education, water management, and healthcare as priority areas requiring enhanced government attention.
On the education front, he noted that the state is strengthening the sector through Young India Integrated Residential Schools and Model Schools. Students currently receive uniforms and midday meals, with breakfast provision planned for the next academic year, he said. The establishment of medical colleges in every district represents progress, though he expressed concern about decreasing enrolment in government schools and called for renewed efforts to fortify public educational institutions.
Sanitation improvements have been achieved through deployment of tractors in villages for waste management, with separate handling of wet and dry refuse, according to the Chairman.
On agricultural procurement, Sukender Reddy emphasized that Telangana's paddy purchase system operates at a scale unmatched by other states. He instructed officials to complete paddy procurement operations in Nalgonda by June 2.
Nalgonda Municipal Corporation Mayor Burri Chaitanya Srinivas Reddy characterized the governance programme as a demonstration of the state's commitment to citizen-centred administration. He outlined details of a proposed family life insurance scheme expected to launch in the coming period.
MLC Nellikanti Satyam stressed that officials are instrumental in translating welfare schemes into tangible outcomes and urged continued focus on resolving pending community concerns.
District Collector B. Chandrasekhar provided a comprehensive overview of the Praja Palana Pragathi Pranalika programme through a presentation, detailing activities and results since its launch on March 6. District SP Sharath Chandra outlined road safety measures, including the Alive and Arrive initiative. Various departmental heads also presented updates on their respective activities.
The event was attended by Revenue Additional Collector J. Srinivas, Local Bodies In-charge Additional Collector Y. Ashok Reddy, municipal leaders, elected representatives, and district-level officials.
