Ampere Reaches 4 Lakh Units Sold, Solidifies Position as India's Leading Mass-Market EV Brand

Bangalore—Greaves Electric Mobility's Ampere brand has announced surpassing the 4 lakh mark in electric scooters manufactured and distributed across India. The achievement marks a significant turning point for the company, demonstrating its evolution from an early entrant in India's EV landscape to a dominant force in the affordable electric two-wheeler segment.

The company's performance during the fiscal year 2026 reflected substantial expansion, with a 51% year-on-year increase in sales. Ampere's share of India's electric two-wheeler market rose to 4.4% in FY26, up from 3.6% the previous year, establishing it among the sector's foremost players.

The brand's appeal rests on a straightforward value proposition: dependable electric scooters engineered specifically for Indian road conditions, climate variations, and diverse terrain. A core selling point centres on total cost of ownership that undercuts conventional petrol-powered alternatives. All Ampere models operate on a 100% LFP battery platform, delivering enhanced safety features, thermal resilience, and a lifecycle extending to approximately 200,000 kilometres.

Vikas Singh, Managing Director of Greaves Electric Mobility, attributed the milestone to mounting consumer confidence. "This achievement validates our commitment to providing trustworthy, cost-effective electric mobility in the under-₹1 lakh category," he stated. "With fuel expenses climbing, customers are actively exploring practical substitutes for daily transportation. We aim to facilitate this shift with dependable solutions. The forthcoming phase of EV expansion in India will centre on realistic, mainstream options, and Ampere stands ready to lead this transformation. Our 'Built for Bharat' framework delivers vehicles engineered for harsh environments with emphasis on dependability, robustness, and ownership economics."

Recent product recognition has reinforced Ampere's market standing. The Ampere Nexus earned the distinction of "Electric scooter of the year 2025" and has demonstrated its capabilities through notable feats including navigating the 70-hairpin bends of Kolli Hill and reaching the Shipki La Pass at an elevation of 13,200 feet. The Magnus Grand received the "Electric Scooter of the Year 2026" award, while the Magnus G-Max was recognised as the "Family Scooter of the Year 2026."

Ampere has expanded its commercial infrastructure to support this growth. The dealer network expanded by 12% during FY26 compared to the previous year, alongside renovation of existing retail outlets and network improvements aimed at enhancing dealer effectiveness and customer satisfaction. The company now maintains substantial retail coverage spanning metropolitan centres and emerging EV markets throughout the nation.

The 4 lakh figure encompasses slow-speed vehicles not reflected in VAHAN registration data. Looking forward, Ampere intends to deepen its market position through continued technology development and expansion of its complete LFP battery range, which continues to prioritise safety, thermal performance, extended lifecycle capability, and reduced total cost of ownership for consumers.
