Hyderabad — Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla made an impassioned appeal to residents to take part in voluntary initiatives and blood donation programmes during World Red Cross Day observances held in the city.

Speaking at the event, the Governor stressed that dedicating oneself to the welfare of others represents the highest calling in life. He underscored how meaningful human existence derives from extending help to those in need.

The Indian Red Cross Society Telangana Branch orchestrated joint celebrations of World Red Cross Day and World Thalassemia Day at Samskruti Community Hall in Lok Bhavan. As part of the programme, the Governor paid respects at the memorial of Henry Dunant, the visionary who established the Red Cross Movement.

During the event, Shiv Pratap Shukla formally opened a blood donation facility and subsequently recognised donors for their selfless contributions through certificates. He also presented nutrition packages to thalassemia-affected children and spent time with their families.

In his address, the Governor highlighted this year's central message — "United in Humanity" — noting its resonance with society's obligation to support vulnerable populations. He commended the Indian Red Cross Society for its sustained commitment to humanitarian causes spanning over a century since 1920. The organisation remains active in organizing blood collection drives, conducting health awareness camps, and mobilizing resources during emergencies.

The Governor expressed admiration for the resilience demonstrated by children battling thalassemia, characterizing their fortitude as a source of inspiration for the broader community. He also acknowledged the sacrifices of parents caring for thalassemia patients, recognising them as unsung heroes.

Shiv Pratap Shukla highlighted how corporate social responsibility initiatives have expanded healthcare accessibility and raised consciousness about blood donation needs in rural communities. He called on all citizens to actively promote values of empathy, solidarity and humanitarian concern through community participation.

The Governor made reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "TB Mukt Bharat" initiative during his remarks.

Governor's Special Chief Secretary M Dana Kishore announced plans for a Red Cross membership enrollment campaign slated to run from May 15 through June 15 throughout Telangana state.

In a separate gesture, Krishna Sai International Charitable Trust contributed ₹4 lakh to support the Red Cross Society's activities.
