GHMC Launches Composting Initiative for Resident Welfare Associations Across Hyderabad

Hyderabad's Urban Biodiversity wing has rolled out a series of composting education programmes targeting Resident Welfare Associations, marking a key component of the broader Praja Palana–Pragati Pranalika 99-day action plan.
The drive seeks to build momentum around environmentally responsible waste handling and encourage residents to adopt composting practices within their homes and localities.
Participants learned about separating waste streams, setting up compost units, proper upkeep procedures, and harnessing finished compost for gardens and green spaces throughout the city. RWA representatives responded enthusiastically to the sessions, pledging their commitment to supporting composting initiatives within their respective neighbourhoods.
The municipal body conducted 28 separate training events, reaching approximately 500 to 600 RWA members across multiple zones including Kisanbagh, Mettuguda and Kavadiguda.
Trainers demonstrated straightforward, nature-friendly techniques for transforming organic kitchen waste into usable compost. Officials underscored how the effort advances cleaner sanitation practices, safeguards the environment, and strengthens grassroots participation in building a more sustainable Hyderabad.
