A decade-long struggle with infertility has ended joyfully for Gaddam Triveni and Mastan Rao, an agricultural labour couple from Boyaguda, who welcomed twin babies—a son and a daughter—at Gandhi Hospital on Wednesday.

The successful delivery marks a significant milestone for the hospital's fertility centre, particularly given the couple's medical history. Before seeking assistance at Gandhi Hospital, they had endured years of unsuccessful treatment, including 13 ovulation induction cycles and one intrauterine insemination (IUI) procedure at private healthcare facilities.

Upon approaching Gandhi Hospital's IVF centre, medical specialists identified underlying health issues and initiated comprehensive in-vitro fertilisation treatment. The entire course of care—spanning from conception through delivery, including all procedures, medications, and medical support—was provided without charge to the family.

Both mother and newborns are reported to be in good health, according to hospital officials.

The financial implications of the treatment underscore the significance of publicly funded fertility services. Hospital administrators noted that identical treatment and delivery would command a cost ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 12 lakh at private medical institutions.

Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha commended the efforts of Gandhi Hospital Superintendent Dr Vani, IVF Centre Head Dr T. Shobha, Dr Fatima, Dr Shivakrishna, Nursing Officer Lavanya, and all medical personnel involved in facilitating the successful outcome.

The minister emphasised that fertility centres established at Gandhi Hospital and Petlaburj Hospital serve a critical function by extending advanced reproductive treatment to economically disadvantaged patients who would otherwise lack access to such services. He highlighted that sophisticated reproductive healthcare capabilities are now accessible through government hospital networks and encouraged citizens to utilise these public health resources.

Medical specialists at the hospital credited meticulous clinical oversight and specialised fertility management as instrumental factors in achieving successful pregnancy and delivery outcomes.
