Hyderabad: The state government has committed to mobilising all necessary financial resources to expedite irrigation development in the Palamuru region, according to Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy.

The minister disclosed that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will conduct an intensive two-day examination of major irrigation infrastructure in the former Mahabubnagar district on June 4 and 5.

Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasised that the administration has prioritised the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district within its broader irrigation development strategy. The focus will centre on project completion, resolution of land acquisition bottlenecks, and acceleration of construction timelines.

The government stands ready to allocate whatever budgetary support is needed to advance several major schemes in the region, the minister indicated. These include the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, Nettempadu Lift Irrigation Scheme, Koilsagar Project, and Bheema Lift Irrigation Scheme.

Speaking at the foundation stone ceremony for the Ajilapur Lift Irrigation Scheme in Devarakadra mandal on Saturday, Uttam Kumar Reddy articulated the government's vision of converting the drought-vulnerable region into a water-secure agricultural hub.

Comprehensive Assessment Planned

During the Chief Minister's forthcoming visit, detailed assessments will be conducted on the Palamuru-Rangareddy, Nettempadu, Koilsagar, Bheema, and Kalwakurthy irrigation schemes, the minister outlined.

Uttam Kumar Reddy criticised the previous administration for leaving multiple projects in incomplete states despite successive commitments. He contended that the earlier government had failed to accord sufficient attention to irrigation infrastructure development in Palamuru.

Disputing suggestions that the Palamuru-Rangareddy project had neared completion before the change of administration, the minister stated that the scheme had not delivered any irrigation benefits to a single acre when the current Congress-led government assumed office.

Progress has accelerated following the government's transition, Uttam Kumar Reddy asserted. The Chief Minister's inspection would further catalyse development and strengthen irrigation systems throughout the district, he added.

New Scheme Details

The Ajilapur Lift Irrigation Scheme will entail an investment of Rs.32 crore, the minister specified. The initiative is designed to supply irrigation facilities to approximately 1,400 acres spread across Ajilapur, Gaddagudem, and Venkatayapalli villages.

The scheme will source water from the Koilsagar Balancing Reservoir, channelling roughly 65 MCFT of water for agricultural purposes.

Uttam Kumar Reddy acknowledged Devarakadra MLA G. Madhusudhan Reddy's efforts in securing the project, noting its potential to benefit farming communities in the area.

Procurement Review

During the same visit, the minister also inspected paddy procurement activities across the district. He engaged with district administrators, elected representatives, and departmental staff to ensure efficient collection of agricultural produce from farmers.

Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and Vakiti Srihari, Civil Supplies Commissioner Stephen Ravindra, district officials, MLAs, and MLCs participated in the review proceedings.
