Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Sexual Abuse of Daughter Under POCSO Act

Hyderabad: A man has been found guilty of repeatedly sexually assaulting his minor daughter and handed a 20-year prison sentence by a Fast Track Special Court here.
The convicted individual, Asgar Ali, 37, worked as a labourer and resided in Gampala Basthi, Subash Nagar. He hailed from Bihar but had relocated to Hyderabad with his family in 2019 seeking employment. The court imposed an additional fine of ₹35,000 as part of the judgment.
The abuse came to the attention of authorities on May 6, 2025, when the victim's mother lodged a formal complaint at Jeedimetla Police Station. According to investigators, Ali had engaged in repeated sexual assault of his 15-year-old daughter over an extended period. Police records indicated that his frequent alcohol consumption was a factor in the offences.
The younger daughter eventually disclosed the abuse to her mother, prompting the latter to confront the accused at home. During this confrontation, Ali initially acknowledged his actions and described them as a lapse in judgment. However, he subsequently became aggressive and absconded from the residence.
Officers tracked down and arrested him on May 8, 2025, just two days after the complaint was registered. The investigation was completed and a charge sheet was filed against him under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Fast Track Special Judge K. Venkatesh presided over the trial and delivered the conviction based on evidence presented during proceedings. In addition to the 20-year rigorous imprisonment term, the court directed Ali to pay ₹35,000 in fines. The judgment also included an award of ₹3 lakh to the victim, intended to facilitate her rehabilitation and recovery.
The case underscores the judicial system's commitment to protecting minors through stringent application of child protection laws.
