Farm Mechanisation Key to Tackling Agricultural Labour Crisis, Says Nageswar Rao

Hyderabad: The state's Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswar Rao has underscored the importance of mechanisation as a remedy for declining agricultural labour availability and a pathway to enhanced farm productivity.

The Minister's comments came following a visit to the XCA exhibition stall at EarthCon Expo-2026, held at HITEX in Madhapur on Friday. He examined loaders and excavators on display, studying their technical specifications and operational capabilities.

According to Nageswar Rao, contemporary farming equipment enables cultivators to execute agricultural tasks with considerably greater speed and effectiveness. The shortage of farm workers has emerged as a pressing problem in the sector, he noted, and mechanised approaches offer a practical way to decrease reliance on manual labour.

Machinery as a solution for farm operations

The Minister highlighted that equipment such as loaders and excavators could deliver substantial benefits for farming activities. These machines would allow farmers to complete work faster and boost operational productivity, he observed.

Nageswar Rao commended XCA for presenting cost-effective and portable machinery designed for agricultural applications. The introduction of such technologies could broaden access to modern farming solutions for cultivators throughout the state, he remarked. He further suggested that increased uptake of farm mechanisation would enable farmers to accomplish essential tasks more rapidly.

Subsidy scheme and green technology options

The Minister indicated that the state's Agriculture Department might incorporate these machines into its existing Farm Mechanisation programme. Should this materialise, qualifying farmers could obtain the equipment with a 40 percent financial subsidy, he stated.

Nageswar Rao also encouraged the company to develop battery-operated versions of its equipment. Electric-powered machines would represent a more sustainable option compared to conventional diesel-based models, he pointed out.

The Minister concluded that mechanisation and technological advancement would prove vital to agriculture's future direction, enabling farmers to boost output while simultaneously addressing operational difficulties.
