Education as Social Justice: Telangana's Commitment to Tribal and Disadvantaged Communities

Hyderabad — Tribal Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar has characterized educational investment as a foundational commitment to national progress rather than mere government spending, speaking at the Academic Success Meet-2026 held at Babu Jagjivan Ram Bhavan on Saturday.
The minister emphasized that the Telangana government prioritizes educational advancement for SC, ST, BC, Minority and other socially and economically disadvantaged groups. The event coincided with nationwide observances of "Janjatiya Garima Utsav – Birsa Lives in New Bharat," marking the 150th birth anniversary of tribal icon Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
Adluri Laxman Kumar projected that students currently enrolled in government schools would emerge as vital contributors to national economic development, state progress and family prosperity. He framed the Birsa Munda celebrations as recognition of tribal students' determination and accomplishments, extending beyond academic metrics alone.
The minister highlighted the enduring influence of Birsa Munda's principles across generations, while acknowledging the legacies of tribal freedom fighters Komaram Bheem and Ramji Gond.
Education as a Tool for Social Transformation
Positioning education as central to social justice, Adluri Laxman Kumar stated that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy views education as the most potent mechanism for poverty elimination and breaking cycles of intergenerational disadvantage. The government treats educational investment as a strategic approach to cultivating a skilled, productive and self-reliant populace.
The minister pointed to the Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions, particularly the Gurukul system, as exemplars of educational excellence that have gained national recognition. These institutions currently provide free residential education to over 82,000 students.
Recent academic outcomes underscore institutional performance: SSC examinations achieved a 98.86 per cent pass rate, with 56 institutions recording perfect 100 per cent results. Intermediate students demonstrated a pass percentage of 86.53 per cent.
Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Panchayat Raj and Women & Child Welfare Minister Seethakka, MLC Addanki Dayakar, MLAs Naveen Yadav and Vedma Bojju, along with senior government officials, participated in the event.
