ECI Rejects Telangana Rakshana Sena as Party Name, Asks Kavitha to Propose Alternatives

Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India has declined to approve Telangana Rakshana Sena as the name for Kalvakuntla Kavitha's newly established political party, instructing her to furnish three replacement names within a fortnight.

In its communication to Kavitha, the ECI noted that the acronym "TRS" cannot be retained following objections it received. The commission determined that the name could generate confusion among the public given the acronym's long-standing connection to the state's established regional political movement.

The ECI cautioned that if Kavitha fails to propose alternative names within the prescribed 15-day window, the party's registration application would be rejected outright.

Kavitha Opts for Legal Challenge

Upon receiving the ECI's notice, Kavitha acknowledged that her team had already responded to two of the objections raised by the electoral body.

Nevertheless, Kavitha made clear that her party would not comply with the directive to submit alternative names. Instead, she announced plans to mount a legal challenge against the ECI's decision in court, seeking to retain the Telangana Rakshana Sena designation.

The disagreement signals a significant obstacle in Kavitha's bid to establish her political party, with the naming dispute now poised to escalate into judicial proceedings.
