BJP MP Eatala Rajender Demands Urgent Action Against Government Land Encroachments in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Voicing concern over unauthorised occupation of public properties, BJP MP Eatala Rajender has demanded that authorities take decisive steps to safeguard government lands across the city and prevent further encroachments.

After conducting an inspection of Survey Nos. 57/1 and 157/1 in the Cantonment area on Wednesday, Rajender told media that economically disadvantaged families were increasingly unable to access land for residential purposes in Hyderabad.

He highlighted how the city's rapid growth and escalating property values have transformed the landscape for migrants arriving from rural regions. Previously, such individuals could establish settlements on inexpensive land by constructing temporary shelters. Today, urbanisation has driven up costs to the point where even modest plots remain beyond the reach of lower-income households.

Encroachments Threaten Essential Public Infrastructure

Rajender contended that widespread land grabbing has substantially diminished the availability of government properties needed for educational institutions, healthcare facilities, recreational spaces and community amenities.

The legislator alleged that a network comprising land grabbers, intermediaries and dishonest officials has been systematically converting government assets valued at thousands of crores into personal holdings. He pointed to areas including Shamshiguda and Yellammabanda as locations experiencing encroachment pressures, and accused certain parties of illegally occupying land designated for housing initiatives benefiting disadvantaged populations.

Approximately eight acres situated between Balanagar and Tirumalagiri are at risk of being misclassified as privately owned, according to Rajender's claims.

Protecting Long-Term Residents While Addressing Systemic Issues

Regarding the specific survey numbers inspected, Rajender opposed any measures to displace families who have inhabited these plots for extended periods, characterising such evictions as unjust. He insisted that authorities should instead ensure the security of these established residents.

The MP further alleged that over the past 25 to 30 years, certain individuals have doctored property records to reclassify public land as private holdings.

Rajender called on the state administration to allocate public land for residential schemes, educational facilities, medical centres and essential civic infrastructure projects. He also demanded stringent penalties for those engaged in unlawful land transactions and encroachments.

Addressing officials directly, Rajender reminded them of their accountability to taxpayers who fund their salaries. He stressed that both government employees and elected representatives bear the responsibility to prioritise public interests in their decision-making and grievance resolution processes.
