Procurement Crisis Deepens Farmer Hardship Across Telangana, BJP Alleges

Farmers across Telangana face mounting distress as grain procurement operations have stalled, with BJP MP Eatala Rajender pointing to the Congress government's inability to execute timely purchases.

The allegation emerged during Eatala's visit to a grain procurement facility in Gunjapadugu, located in Manthani Rural within Peddapalli district. The visit was part of the BJP's "Rythu Gosa – BJP Bharosa" yatra, which has brought together party MPs, MLAs and MLCs under the leadership of BJP Legislature Party leader Aleti Maheswar Reddy to assess conditions on the ground.

Over the past three days, the BJP delegation witnessed challenging situations at multiple procurement centres. Eatala highlighted that substantial quantities of paddy, maize and sunflower lie unprocessed at IKP and PACS centres, citing shortages of essential supplies including gunny bags, adequate labour, and transportation capacity.

The delays have created a cascade of problems for farmers. Untimely rainfall has damaged harvested grain stocks stored at procurement facilities statewide, while farmers themselves endure financial strain and psychological toll from prolonged procurement delays. Eatala called for immediate action to transport accumulated grain stocks to rice mills to mitigate ongoing crop losses.

The BJP MP also raised concerns about practices at rice mills, alleging that excessive tare deductions during procurement are placing additional burden on farmers, and demanded government intervention.

Maheswar Reddy echoed these criticisms, asserting that official procurement statistics fail to reflect the actual situation visible at procurement centres. He challenged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to visit sites where grain stockpiles have accumulated over several weeks, suggesting a significant gap between reported and real conditions.
