Ambassador Maliki's Memoir Launched at Oxford Bookstore Literary Evening in Delhi

New Delhi's Oxford Bookstore hosted a significant literary event marking the release of "What if...Why Not?" by H.E. Mr. Mohamed Maliki, Ambassador of His Majesty the King of Morocco to India. The occasion coincided with the announcement of winners for the 11th Oxford Bookstore Book Cover Prize and the unveiling of the longlist for the 4th Oxford Bookstore Art Book Prize.
The gathering brought together prominent figures from India's literary, artistic, and diplomatic communities. Ms. Priti Paul, Director of Apeejay Surrendra Group, and Dr. Alka Pande, a museum curator, art historian, and author serving as jury chair, presided over the event held at the India Habitat Centre.
Dr. Shashi Tharoor, a renowned author and Member of Parliament, formally launched the publication. The event featured a panel discussion with the ambassador, Dr. Tharoor, and Dr. Pande exploring the book's central themes.
"What if...Why Not?" presents a collection of narratives drawn from Ambassador Maliki's diplomatic career and personal journey. The memoir touches upon experiences ranging from Pakistan's vibrant urban landscapes to rainy periods in Cameroon, weaving together accounts of international diplomacy, personal introspection, and family life. Published by Indie Press, the work examines friendship, belonging, and the often-overlooked contributions of family members in diplomatic service.
During his remarks, Ambassador Maliki emphasized the importance of questioning conventional thinking. "True progress begins when we dare to ask 'What if?' and possess the audacity to answer 'Why not?'" he stated. He further noted that meaningful advancement requires grounding in core values and familial bonds rather than material achievements alone. "This book is a call to break free from conventional boundaries and reimagine our collective future," the ambassador added, expressing his gratitude for Dr. Tharoor's participation in launching the work.
Dr. Tharoor reflected on how personal narratives and lived experiences contribute to cross-cultural understanding, while Dr. Pande guided the discussion through the book's key themes and their contemporary significance. The audience engaged actively throughout the session, contributing to thoughtful exchanges about diplomacy, resilience, and human connection.
The evening concluded with celebrations recognizing excellence in Indian publishing, design, and art. The combined programming underscored Oxford Bookstore's commitment to promoting creative achievement and fostering cultural dialogue within India.
