Dr. Reddy's and Nestlé Health Science Launch Celevida® GLP+ for Diabetes and Obesity Management

Chennai – A joint venture between Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd and Nestlé Health Science Limited has unveiled Celevida® GLP+, a purpose-built nutritional product targeting individuals receiving GLP-1/GIP therapy for type 2 diabetes and obesity management across India.
The launch addresses a growing recognition that effective disease management requires more than medication alone. As these therapies gain wider adoption, healthcare experts emphasize the importance of comprehensive support systems encompassing proper nutrition, clinical oversight, and sustained patient care to achieve lasting health improvements.
M.V. Ramana, CEO of Global Generics at Dr. Reddy's Laboratories and Director of the joint venture, noted that while GLP-1 therapies represent meaningful progress in diabetes and obesity treatment, significant gaps persist in non-pharmacological patient support. "Patients undergoing these treatments face particular challenges with nutrient adequacy and muscle preservation as their body composition changes," Ramana stated. "Celevida® GLP+ offers a science-backed nutritional approach that works alongside medication to support better long-term health outcomes."
Clinical data has revealed a concerning pattern: research suggests that 25-40% of weight reduction from GLP-1 and dual GLP-1/GIP therapies stems from loss of lean body mass rather than fat. Indian clinicians highlight that this risk carries particular significance for the local population, given that Indians typically have lower baseline skeletal muscle mass and higher body fat percentage compared to other populations. This concern intensifies given the country's widespread pattern of inadequate protein consumption, averaging approximately 0.6g per kilogram of body weight daily.
Medical experts recommend protein intake levels of 1.2–1.5 grams per kilogram daily to effectively preserve muscle during weight reduction, underscoring the need for targeted nutritional interventions.
Celevida® GLP+ was formulated in collaboration with prominent endocrinologists and diabetologists to tackle protein insufficiency and sustain muscle integrity during therapy. The product features fast-absorbing whey protein isolate, chosen for its gentle effect on the digestive system—particularly valuable since gastrointestinal sensitivity commonly accompanies GLP-1/GIP treatment.
Each 100-gram serving delivers 48 grams of protein and provides the complete recommended daily allowance of branched-chain amino acids. The formulation also includes 27 additional micronutrients, encompassing vitamins A and D alongside calcium. The parent companies already maintain a foothold in diabetes-focused nutrition through Celevida® Diabetes Nutrition, a product clinically demonstrated to support consistent 24-hour glucose control and reduce HbA1c measurements, with a low glycaemic index profile suited for extended metabolic management.
The new product is now available in 350-gram packages through pharmacies, conventional retail stores, and online shopping platforms.
