Diageo India Launches Driver Safety Training Hub at Rajahmundry RTO in Andhra Pradesh

April 27, 2026

Rajahmundry — A new driver training facility has been inaugurated at the Regional Transport Office here, developed through collaboration between Diageo India (United Spirits Limited), BHARATCARES, and the Andhra Pradesh Transport Department.

The Driver Sensitisation Tab Lab represents the latest expansion of Diageo India's Wrong Side of the Road (WSOTR) programme, which uses technology and interactive content to address unsafe driving practices. The Rajahmundry facility brings the total number of such centres operating across RTOs in Andhra Pradesh to four.

The WSOTR initiative forms part of Diageo India's broader Spirit of Progress environmental, social, and governance framework. The programme employs immersive digital modules to engage drivers with realistic scenarios that underscore the risks associated with dangerous driving behaviour. At the Tab Labs, all new driving license applicants complete a compulsory 45-minute session combining interactive video material and behavioural assessments. Through scenario-based learning, participants gain insight into the importance of safe driving practices.

The Rajahmundry lab is one of 83 such facilities now operational nationwide, reflecting an expanding commitment to improving road safety across India.

R. Suresh, District Transport Officer, stated that the facility employs technology-driven approaches to train drivers and raise consciousness about real-world driving conditions and safety protocols. "Initiatives like these are instrumental in instilling responsible driving behaviour from the very beginning," Suresh said, adding appreciation for the support provided by Diageo India and BHARATCARES in implementing the programme.

Devashish Dasgupta, Head of Corporate Relations at Diageo India, emphasised the company's dedication to responsible consumption education. "We are expanding our WSOTR programme to empower drivers with the knowledge and awareness needed to make responsible decisions," Dasgupta said. "Driving meaningful change in attitudes is essential to addressing this issue. We are proud to have established Tab Labs across 4 RTOs in the state."

Basant Sahu of BHARATCARES highlighted the collaborative approach underlying the initiative. "This partnership reflects how innovation, technology, and targeted education can come together to create meaningful social impact," Sahu remarked. "Through initiatives such as the Tab Lab, we are enabling individuals to make informed choices while contributing to a broader culture of safety and responsibility across communities."

BHARATCARES operates as a social impact organisation focused on addressing societal challenges through innovation and scalability. Functioning under SMEC Trust, the organisation works with government bodies, communities, innovators, and funders to implement effective solutions. Its core focus areas include education, employability, rural and healthcare infrastructure development, entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability, and road safety.
