DGP Anand Stresses Enhanced Training and Operational Readiness for Greyhounds Unit

Hyderabad — The state's top police official has called for sustained improvements in combat training and operational readiness at the Greyhounds, the state's premier counter-insurgency unit.
Director General of Police CV Anand visited the Greyhounds headquarters on Thursday to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the force's operational and administrative functioning. The review focused on the unit's track record in anti-Maoist operations and its broader security responsibilities across the region.
During the meeting, the DGP examined the training programmes, standards, and operational protocols currently being implemented for personnel. He underscored the importance of modernising training approaches to keep pace with evolving operational challenges and tactical requirements.
The DGP has instructed the Greyhounds command to enhance operational efficiency while maintaining heightened readiness for deployment. He particularly highlighted the need for consistent weapons training and intensive combat drills to keep personnel sharp and mission-ready.
The review also touched upon staffing challenges facing the unit. The DGP noted that a proposal regarding 708 posts that have been surrendered by Greyhounds personnel remains under government consideration. He clarified that approved repatriations would proceed once the government formally issues the necessary directives, a process tied to the overall reduction in Maoist-related security threats in the state.
Commending the professionalism and commitment demonstrated by Greyhounds personnel, Anand stressed that the force must sustain its standing as a premier counter-insurgency organisation through continued discipline, professional excellence, and operational vigilance.
DGP Greyhounds Anil Kumar and other senior officers participated in the review meeting.
