DGP C.V. Anand Pushes Modernisation Drive During Telangana Special Battalions Review

Hyderabad: The state's top police official, Director General of Police C.V. Anand, undertook an extensive review of the Telangana Special Battalions at their Jubilee Hills headquarters, issuing directives aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and officer well-being.

During the meeting, Anand inspected multiple operational areas including administrative divisions, communication infrastructure, weapons storage facilities, and construction projects underway at the battalion premises. Senior officers presented detailed briefings on battalion operations, which the DGP assessed comprehensively.

The DGP highlighted the battalions' contributions to law enforcement across multiple domains, noting their participation in counter-insurgency efforts against Naxalites and their more recent deployment during flood relief operations in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts. Anand underscored how this track record of service and bravery continues to motivate personnel across the force.

The review identified several areas requiring immediate attention. Anand directed the administration to accelerate hiring procedures to fill existing vacancies and to invest in enhanced technological systems. He also stressed the need for improved transportation resources and upgraded living conditions, including better accommodation, water supply, and medical facilities for officers and staff.

Transparency in work schedules emerged as another priority, with the DGP instructing leadership to implement fair duty roster practices. Addressing personnel wellness, Anand called for strengthening the 'Mitra' Counselling Centres, which provide mental health support to officers under stress. He additionally mandated awareness and prevention initiatives targeting drug abuse and online gambling, emphasising counselling-based interventions rather than punitive measures.

Looking ahead, Anand reviewed plans to establish additional Special Battalion facilities in Future City and Amangal. The expansion, he noted, would enhance the force's preparedness for future operational demands.

Concluding the review, Anand reaffirmed the department's commitment to prioritising officer development and training programmes while simultaneously embedding technology-driven approaches into police operations across Telangana.
