Cyberabad Police Crack Down on Intoxicated Drivers, File 283 Cases

Hyderabad's Cyberabad Traffic Police have intensified their crackdown on impaired driving, registering 283 cases against violators during a weekend enforcement operation. All those charged are expected to appear before judicial authorities, officials confirmed.

The breakdown of vehicles seized during the operation reveals 227 two-wheelers, 39 four-wheelers, nine three-wheelers, and eight heavy vehicles. The targeted action forms part of a broader initiative to combat alcohol-impaired driving across the jurisdiction.

Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) measurements recorded during the enforcement showed concerning levels among those detained. The majority—222 individuals—registered BAC readings between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. A further 33 motorists displayed BAC levels ranging from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml, while 28 individuals showed measurements between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.

Police have emphasized the gravity of driving while intoxicated, noting it constitutes a serious criminal offence. Those involved in fatal accidents while under the influence face prosecution under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which prescribes imprisonment of up to 10 years and monetary penalties.

Recent court proceedings have already yielded results. Between April 27 and May 2, courts disposed of 160 drunk driving cases. Among these, 12 offenders received fines coupled with community service requirements, while 148 received financial penalties alone. Authorities view these sanctions as essential deterrents against habitual violations and as mechanisms to strengthen road safety compliance.

Traffic officials have called upon drivers to refrain from operating vehicles after alcohol consumption and to adhere strictly to traffic norms. The police have pledged to maintain regular enforcement drives throughout Cyberabad to sustain road safety standards.
