Seven Bank Officials Arrested in Hyderabad Cyber Fraud Investigation

Hyderabad law enforcement has made significant progress in combating organised cyber fraud with the arrest of seven bank officials who allegedly provided insider support to criminal networks.

The Cyberabad Cyber Crime Police operation targeted personnel from Indian Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Bandhan Bank, IndusInd Bank, and several other banking institutions. The arrested individuals held positions ranging from branch managers to field officers within these organisations.

According to investigators, the officials facilitated the creation of fraudulent accounts by circumventing Know Your Customer (KYC) verification protocols. In exchange for their cooperation, the accused reportedly received financial commissions from cyber criminals seeking to establish these accounts.

The investigation further revealed that the implicated officials turned a blind eye to suspicious transactions involving large sums of money flowing through these accounts. Authorities determined that such mule accounts served a critical function in criminal operations, allowing fraudsters to launder proceeds from cybercrime activities and obscure the trail of illicit funds.

Five separate criminal cases were registered in connection with the broader racket. The police department conducted the arrests as part of Operation Crackdown, a focused initiative to dismantle networks enabling financial crimes.

Officials emphasised that the department maintains a strict zero-tolerance stance toward employees of financial institutions who abuse their positions to facilitate fraud. Protecting the financial security of the public has been identified as a core priority for law enforcement, with assurances that enforcement action against insider involvement in cyber offences will remain unrelenting.
