Cyberabad Traffic Police Apprehend 245 Drunk Drivers in Weekend Enforcement Operation

Hyderabad's Cyberabad Traffic Police intensified its fight against impaired driving by apprehending 245 motorists over the weekend in a targeted enforcement campaign across the jurisdiction.

The special operation focused on violators across multiple vehicle categories. Two-wheeler operators formed the largest group, with 197 cases registered against them. The police also booked 36 drivers of four-wheeled vehicles and 12 operators of three-wheelers. No violations were recorded among heavy vehicle operators during the drive.

Blood Alcohol Concentration Breakdown

The enforcement action classified offenders based on their Blood Alcohol Concentration measurements. The majority—196 individuals—registered BAC levels ranging from 36 mg/100 ml to 200 mg/100 ml. A second group of 28 offenders showed elevated levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml. The most concerning cases involved 21 individuals with dangerously elevated BAC readings between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.

All apprehended motorists will face court proceedings for the violations.

Legal Consequences and Warnings

Traffic authorities emphasized that operating a vehicle under the influence constitutes a serious criminal offence. The police cautioned that drivers who cause fatal accidents while impaired face prosecution under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which addresses culpable homicide not amounting to murder and carries a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment along with financial penalties.

Recent Court Disposals

Between April 20 and April 25, 2026, courts concluded proceedings on 189 drunk driving cases. Two offenders received both fines and community service orders, while 187 individuals faced monetary penalties alone. No combined jail sentences with fines were imposed during this period.

The enforcement activity reflects ongoing vigilance by traffic authorities in addressing road safety violations through consistent legal action.
