Cyberabad Traffic Police Apprehend 283 Impaired Drivers in Weekend Crackdown

Hyderabad: A targeted enforcement operation conducted by Cyberabad Traffic Police over the weekend led to the apprehension of 283 individuals suspected of operating vehicles while intoxicated, authorities confirmed.
The operation focused on identifying motorists impaired by alcohol throughout the Cyberabad jurisdiction. The breakdown of those detained reveals that two-wheeler operators constituted the largest group at 227 individuals, followed by 39 car drivers. The remaining violations were distributed among 9 auto-rickshaw drivers and 8 operators of commercial or heavy vehicles.
Blood Alcohol Concentration Data
Authorities classified the violators according to measured Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels. The majority—222 offenders—registered BAC readings between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. A second tier comprised 33 individuals whose readings fell between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml. The remaining 28 offenders demonstrated BAC levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml.
Legal Consequences and Deterrence
Traffic officials underscored the gravity of operating a vehicle while under alcohol's influence, emphasizing that those responsible for fatal accidents while intoxicated face prosecution under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023—the provision addressing culpable homicide excluding murder. This section prescribes imprisonment for a term extending to 10 years alongside monetary penalties.
Police officials stated that the enforcement initiative aims to discourage hazardous driving practices and strengthen road safety measures across the region. All individuals apprehended during the operation are scheduled for court proceedings.
