C.V. Anand Named Telangana Police Chief

Hyderabad: Telangana has a new police chief. The State government announced on Tuesday that C.V. Anand will become the next Director General of Police, following the retirement of incumbent B. Shivdhar Reddy on April 30.
Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao issued the official orders for the appointment. Anand will take over the top position in the State police force with a fixed salary in the apex pay scale of Rs 2.25 lakh.
Currently serving as Special Chief Secretary in the Home Department, Anand's appointment was made following a selection process that drew from a panel of candidates submitted by the Union Public Service Commission. The panel comprised three senior IPS officers all belonging to the 1994 batch: Anand, Vinayak Prabhakar Apte, and Soumya Mishra.
Anand's selection as the new police chief stemmed from his seniority among the three shortlisted candidates. The appointment process adhered to established procedures governing the selection of the State's top police administrator.
Officials noted that the transition represents a significant administrative move designed to ensure continuity in police leadership as Reddy completes his tenure. Anand's background in the Home Department is expected to facilitate a seamless handover and support the ongoing focus on strengthening law enforcement and administrative coordination across the State.
The new police chief is set to formally assume office immediately following Reddy's departure at month's end.
